The idea came from Mr. Allan Ngumuya, a member of parliament for Blantyre City South. Mr. Allan thought that the Malawian past prominent people, who positively changed the country’s look, were not given the right attention they deserve. The Member of Parliament said that the Hall of Fame should be used in documenting and housing the historical facts about those who achieved greatness in Malawi.
However, the idea has not been given the reception expected by the initiative from the locals. Those who rejected it said that the idea was not good at the time, and presented some projects which the government should do instead of the Hall of Fame idea. One of those who rejected the idea challenged the Member of Parliament from borrowing everything from the West
However, some challenged the state of the country’s museum citing that they should rather improve the state of the museums to the world-class look. Construction of more police, teachers, and doctors houses were some of the proposals given to the government by the citizens. Another person who rejected the idea talked of construction of better classes and upgrading hospitals in rural areas to minimize the pressure on Central Queens and Mzuzu hospitals in the country.
The citizens challenged the government to work on improving the citizen’s livelihood rather than working on issues that don’t impact on the people’s livelihood. The economic improvement should be given priority by the whole systems of government. The residence gave warnings to those elected members who only try to be famous or work on their gains when they get to power saying that the current Malawi does not have a place for such leaders.
