It is scheduled by the Malawi Government to construct 40 secondary schools in April. The announcement was made by William Susuwere Banda, who is currently the Education minister in the region.
Banda informed the public that it was a project by USAID( United States Agency for International Development).
The Government has located around 40 constructional sites within the country, the minister informed. He also observed that the USAID aims to construct 250 schools and that the construction of 40 schools is the first phase of this project. The project includes the construction of primary schools for junior classes of grades 1 to 4 and houses for teachers in the village of Masasa. Later, the classes will be upgraded to grade 8.
“250 schools are to be constructed in four blocks, and 40 schools will be started in a month, moving up to 60 and then 250 in three years, said Banda.
He also added that children would be happy when they learn about the new junior school because earlier they had to walk very long distances for schools and cross the Monkey Bay Road, which is a high-risk area for the children.
Sandra Paesen, the European Union Ambassador of Malawi, was astonished when she learned about public schools’ low standard infrastructure.
She said that it is heartbreaking that there is a lack of learning and teaching materials and that the infrastructure standard was low. The children are suffering despite efforts made globally and internationally to make free primary education compulsory for Malawi’s children. She, on the other hand, also praised the Government and encouraged it to overcome the challenge.
